Cornwall Council | Maritime Manager
Andy started his sea-going career in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, before moving on to the Natural Environment Research Council and Townsend Thoresen Car Ferries. During this time he gained a Master Mariners (Class 1) Certificate of Competency and a post-graduate diploma in Hydrographic Surveying.
Andy became a well-known public figure in Cornwall when he took over as Harbour Master for the Port of Truro in 1987. Then, in 2009, he was made Maritime Manager of Cornwall, making him in overall operation and control of the various local authority owned ports and harbours across Cornwall.
Andy has been fundamental in ensuring the long-term commercial viability of Cornwall’s maritime infrastructure, whilst also maintaining a careful balance in terms of environmental and leisure development, and has recently been awarded an OBE for services to the UK Ports and Maritime industry.
Andy will be sharing his ideas and plans for the future of the municipal ports in Cornwall, and we look forward to hearing his insights.
